JULY 2024
Did you know...
July is National Watermelon Month, National Hot Dog Month, and National Ice Cream Month. Yum!
Approximately 150 million hot dogs are consumed on Fourth of July.
During extremely hot days of the summer season, the iron of the Eiffel Tower can expand and make it a few inches taller than usual.
Watermelons are a favorite fruit of Americans during the summer season. Estimates suggest that Americans eat about 15 pounds of watermelon a year.
The word “summer” originates from the Old English word “sumor,” which meant “together” in the original language.
The sun is about 93 million miles from Earth.
Less than five per cent of the planet’s oceans have been explored.

Stellar inventory awards
Congratulations to the following techs for receiving the latest Stellar Inventory Awards! In order to receive this award, techs must have under 25 total adjustments and under $200 in total adjustments during their van inventory. Our customers are our #1 priority. Having accurate, clean, and organized van inventory provides them with quicker repairs + first time fixes due to the part not only being on the van, but also in new + operational condition. This impressive achievement wins each of these techs a $200 Home Depot giftcard!

champion training
We were thrilled to host Brent Blanton, who traveled all the way from North Carolina to conduct two comprehensive one-day Champion Industries Dishwasher training classes.
Brent's visit underscores the strong, long-standing relationship between Champion, EMR, and our team. Champion's training was exceptional as always, equipping our techs with the latest knowledge + techniques to excel in their roles. This event was particularly special as it marked the first time Champion conducted training at our location, and we couldn't be more pleased with the experience!

Baltimore Branch Summer BBQ Bash!
Last month we grilled and chilled at our Baltimore HQ! With our busy season in full-swing it was wonderful to have our techs join us on this hot summer day to unwind and enjoy a well-earned BBQ. A huge shoutout to Jamison Johnson (Baltimore ops manager) for planning this fun afternoon and Dennis Tayman (Baltimore service manager + grill master) for the fantastic food. Happy Summer!

ERICKSON LIVING: OAKCREST GOLF OUTING
The Oak Crest (Erickson Senior Living) golf outing is always a highlight for us, and this year's tournament was fantastic. Talk about a perfect day at Rocky Point Golf Course! Fun fact: EMR has proudly been serving Erickson Senior Living facilities for nearly 30 years!
Kudos to our EMR golfers: Charles Blair (Baltimore Metro sales), Dave Fitch (Baltimore Field Service Supervisor), Dennis Tayman (Baltimore Service Manager) + Jamison Johnson (Baltimore Ops Manager).

baltimore museum of industry: redefining industry event
Last month EMR had the honor and privilege of attending/sponsoring the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Annual Redefining Industry event. Thank you to the BMI for recognizing the creativity, dedication, and resilience of those who enhance the cultural and financial vibrancy of Baltimore and beyond. We are incredibly proud of EMR President, Caroline Kauffman-Kirschnick, for sharing her inspiring journey of leading a 3rd-generation family business. Her unwavering advocacy for the trade industry is truly commendable, as she continually emphasizes the value and opportunities that come with joining this vital sector.
industrial division
The Industrial Division's shop meeting last month brought the team together to discuss upcoming jobs, challenges, recent wins, and lay out some future goals. It was an excellent opportunity to reinforce team spirit and operational alignment at 25th street!
Highlight of the day: watching our seasoned industrial techs in action! With tenures of 25+ years, it was an awesome opportunity to see firsthand the practical applications of our tech's strategies and the high level of craftsmanship that goes into every project.
Here's a snapshot of Tony Virgilio (Industrial Rewind Tech) meticulously counting the turns in a DC field coil! Each of these coils plays a crucial role in the motor’s stator, the stationary part of the motor. This is an essential step in our reverse engineering process for motor rewinding.
During this process, we determine the number of turns in each coil, the wire size, and the connections between coils. This detailed information is vital before we can craft new coils, insert them, and connect them properly in the stator. The same meticulous process applies to armatures, but in this instance, we're focusing on stator coils.

Retirement Celebration for Helen Schady and Joe Fernkas!
Last month the Industrial Division had a great time celebrating Joe Fernkas and Helen Schady’s retirement. Joe has been with EMR for an incredible 36 years, and Helen for a wonderful 6 years. Their dedication and hard work have been invaluable, and we are so grateful for their contributions. A huge thank you to Chef Tony Virgilio, who worked his magic at the grill, serving up 24 Kielbasa sausages, 36 sliders, and 24 hot dogs. Everyone devoured them with plenty of chips, sodas and cake!
Thank you to everyone who joined us to make this day special. Here's to Joe and Helen and their new adventures during retirement!

Kyle identified the issue quickly. Despite it technically not falling under EMR’s jurisdiction, he effected a temporary repair allowing us to resume operations until we can get a proper repair completed by the appropriate party. He also identified a couple components that are starting to show signs of wear; we arranged to have those replaced at a future date. Kyle also scheduled a repair for a separate ticket so that it would not occur during overtime hours, which was appreciated.

TY BRISON
BALTIMORE TECH
I got a call from a lady named Joan who gave great compliments and appreciation towards our tech Ty. Joan's husband had left his cell phone at Home Depot and Ty found the cell phone and waited around until it could be retrieved by the owner. Whether it's an EMR customer or some random civilian, Ty always seems to leave a lasting impression on anyone he meets. So big shoutout to Ty!

DRA HINTON
BALTIMORE TECH
Last weekend we had one of our customers reach out needing EMR to stay on-site during a big event for them to assist with any service issues that may come up during the event. Dra stepped up to help our customer out on top of managing his other calls that came in over the weekend. Dra is a true team player and always looking to help out where he can! Thanks for all you do, Dra!
Taylor Rudolph, Baltimore Dispatcher
Thanks to Zach's insightful idea we were able to complete an install project smoothly and more cost efficiently! Zach is always thinking outside of his position and going above and beyond to get the job done. He is a true team player and a huge asset to my dispatch team and EMR. Zach - I appreciate everything you do!
